Malcolm
Denzil Marshall S.C.M. ('Macko')
April 18, 1958, in Bridgetown, Barbados.
West Indies, Barbados, Hampshire and Natal
Considered the most versatile
of the great West Indian fast bowlers, Marshall
made his international debut against India at
Bangalore during the second test of the 1978/79
series. He went on to play 81 tests for the West
Indies, taking 376 wickets with an average of
20.94. As a batsman, his top score was 92 and
many cricket enthusiasts remember the extent of
his competitive nature during the Headingly Test
against England in 1984. With a broken left thumb,
he took seven wickets for 53 runs, the best test
figures of his career. 'Macko' was named Wisden's
Cricketer of the Year in 1983.
