There may never be as complete
a cricketer as Sobers. A brilliant batsman, an
incomparable fieldsman, and a bowler who mastered
three different styles of the art, Sobers made
his debut against England at Kingston in the 1953/54
series. He played 93 tests during an international
career, which ended in 1974.
During that time, he took 235 wickets and scored
8,032 runs with 26 test centuries, for a career
average of 57.78. In 1958, his brilliance shown
through as he scored a mammoth 365 runs against
Pakistan -- a record that stood for 40 years.
Additionally, Sobers has the distinction of being
the first player to hit six consecutive sixes
from a six ball over. He was knighted for his
services to cricket in 1975 and is one of Barbados's
National Heroes.
