Sir
Everton de Courcey Weekes K.C.M.G.
February 26, 1925, in St. Michael, Barbados.
West Indies Barbados
Weekes made his debut for
the West Indies against England in the first test
of the 1947/48 series at Bridgetown. In the 1948/49
tour of India, he scored five consecutive centuries
in four test matches. But it wasn't until the
West Indies tour of New Zealand in 1955/56 that
he earned a reputation.
Weekes came to be known as a 'murderer' or 'plunderer'
of bowling after scoring 940 runs during that
tour and had an average of 104.44 including six
centuries. He played 48 tests for the West Indies
and scored 4,455 runs at an average of 58.61 with
15 test centuries. During his career, he served
as West Indies manager and as ICC match referee.
In 1951, he was named Wisden's Cricketer of the
Year.
