Curtly
Elconn Lynwall Ambrose K.C.N. ('Ambi')
September 21, 1963, in Swetes Village, Antigua.
West Indies, Leeward Islands and Northamptonshire
Ambrose was an excellent fast bowler. He was always
ready to back himself, especially when his team
was in a difficult situation. The man whose enormous
success came from his fitness, stamina and aggression
made his first appearance for the West Indies
versus Pakistan in the 1987/88 series. He went
on to play 98 tests and captured 405 wickets at
an average of 20.99.
Ambrose will always be
remembered for his devastation of Australia at
Sydney in 1992/93, and for the demolition of England
during the Trinidad Test of the 1993/94 series.
In 1992, 'Ambi' was voted Wisden's Cricketer of
the Year.
