Anderson
Montgomery Everton Roberts C.B.E. ('Andy')
January 29, 1951, in Urlings Village, Antigua
West Indies, Leeward Islands, Combined Islands,
Hampshire, New South Wales, Leicestershire.
Roberts made his debut
for the West Indies versus England at Bridgetown,
Barbados in the 1973/74 series, and just one year
later was named Wisden's Cricketer of the Year.
He was the first Antiguan to wear the maroon of
the West Indies and his 47 tests tell of a very
short but outstanding career. Roberts captured
202 wickets and set a record for being the fastest
bowler to cross 100 test wickets (19 tests).
Roberts was considered the most feared fast bowler
between 1974 and 1980. He played 76 one-day internationals
and took 87 wickets at an enviable average of
20.35, a tribute to his ability.
